To celebrate the end of the 19-20 school year we made the
drive to Galveston, TX. We realized it
had been about 7 years since the family has been to the beach at Galveston and
of course we were all excited. Cade and Caelin have been working hard all year
(especially during the remote learning period) and deserved to be
celebrated. On the way to Galveston, we helped
the kids fill out quarantine books that detailed their experiences through
their quarantine time. We parked near 69th
Street where we unloaded all our supplies and headed down to the beach. The day
was overcast (actually perfect for the boys), but the sun did come out long
enough to provide some warmth and sunshine. The boys played toss with the Nerf
football and water ball for hours in the waves. The girls spent our time catching waves on the
boogie board and building a sand castle.
Together we all spent time searching for cool seashells. I was especially excited to find many shells
with small holes in them at the top. I
told the kids that Papa used to say these were shells that were made by God for
beautiful little girls to make jewelry with. Needless to say, God made lots of shells just
for Caelin to bring home with her! After
swimming and playing in the ocean, we walked along the beach before packing up
all our things to head to our favorite place to eat, Shrimp ‘N Stuff, on Avenue
O in Galveston. Each time we come through Galveston we try to eat here. It never fails to disappoint and once again
we walked away with happy and full bellies of fried shrimp, hush puppies,
catfish, tilapia, crab balls, stuffed shrimp, boudin balls, and of course the
amazing remoulade sauce. Once full of amazing food and tired from over 5 hours
on the beach we made our way back home. While disappointed for the day to be
over, we all had smiles from a great time together. Thanks be to God for a great school year,
amazing children, and precious time with family!
