Gamee and I were able to attend Caelin's school Christmas party this year. For the past few years, it has been limited guests if a party was able to be had at all. We had a great time with our girl and watching her eat treats and show us her projects. It may seem like a quick 30 minutes, but these are the memories we will always remember. I know in just a few years, the parties will stop and I will miss these moments.
Tonight, we were all so excited to attend the annual "Vanderport Framily" Christmas party. There is nothing better than a good group of friends that
you can celebrate and live life with. It
is an added bonus however when you can have a good time with that same group of
people. Everyone brought
some type of food and/or drink to share.
There was hummus, cheeses, shrimp and more! Of course everyone was looking forward to the
gift exchange White Elephant style. The
gift rule was simple: It must be something from your house. That seems like it would make the gifts semi
tame, but not with this group. A
surprisingly large number of hand painted pictures were up for grabs and even a
Mosque alarm clock that plays to let you know when it is prayer time (which we
were lucky enough to bring home).
However, while that would have made the night complete it was not over
quite yet. Someone had the genius idea
that the adults should play a card game called spoons. Without going into detail about how to play
the important thing to know is that you needed to grab a spoon of the table to
at the appropriate time. If you were
left without a spoon you earned a letter and the first person to spell SPOON
lost. Well, apparently we are a
competitive bunch! People were diving under the table, on the table, over the
table, and up the stairs. There were plenty of injuries ranging from jammed
fingers to a pretty badly cut finger (on one of the spoons!). There may have
even been a small concussion resulting in the need for CJ to have to don a hard
hat midway through the game. In the end it was a great night that we will all
remember for a long time and will have us looking forward to next year’s
Christmas party!
