Lubbock with my Mama
We received the unfortunate news that Mom's cousin, Baby Roe, passed away. Mom and Baby Roe were more like sisters than cousins as Mom lived with her for several years when they were growing up. We were honored to be able to make the trip to celebrate her life and be with family. I especially enjoyed my trip with Mom and being able to talk while driving. I heard stories and details of her childhood that I have never heard before. On our way into Lubbock, we drove through Spur and McAdoo where Mom spent time in her childhood. We drove around the town and old homes, took pictures at gravesites, and almost ran out of gas with a storm brewing. I guess I misjudged the small town gas stations, ha! We were thankful to get settled in at the hotel and learn that they had a free hour before heading out to dinner. The next day we drove to visit Daddy's grave and leave flowers for him and Grandma/Grandpa Parks. The weather was perfect as we drove around town and even got a treat together. We drove by the last homes of Grandma Watts, Grandma/Grandpa Parks, and I got to see the house Daddy lived in with his parents before he and Mom got married. It was such a fun time thinking of them dating, engaged, and getting married. Now, more than 50 years later, here I am driving around with Mom. That night we went to the viewing and were able to spend a few hours with family catching up and reminiscing. We slept good after such a busy day! The final day, we woke up and went out to brunch before heading to the funeral and graveside. The graveside was at Resthaven where Daddy is buried, so we drove by one last time to say goodbye before heading home to Round Rock. This will be a trip for my core memories as I gained so many special moments with Mom and laughed so much. God gave me a perfect Mommy and I am blessed to have her!
