Cade recently had the chance to celebrate his good friend Lukas’ birthday with a group of buddies, Connor and Wyatt. Lukas and his family invited the boys to their deer lease in Del Rio, near the Texas border, for a weekend of fun, laughter, and a bit of hunting. With beautiful weather and good company, the boys made memories they won’t soon forget. While there were plenty of goofy teenage moments, the boys knew hunting required patience and focus. Cade mentioned the challenge of staying quiet in the stands, but the silence paid off in the end. By the time the weekend was over, Wyatt, Lukas, and Cade each had successful hunts. Connor was in the stand with Cade when the deer came, but told Cade to take the shot. Wyatt even managed to bag a porcupine along with his deer, ha.
For Cade, this was a milestone—his very first deer. He took down a doe from an impressive distance of around 200 yards with a 7mm round. After the shot, he described feeling a mix of excitement, pride, and happiness. Cade also got hands-on with the process, helping to skin the deer. It took more time than he expected, and while the hide wasn’t salvageable, the experience left him wanting to do it all again, next time with hopes of bagging a buck. A big thanks goes to Lukas’ stepdad, Andy, for guiding the boys through the process. The deer was processed at Smitty’s Meat Market in Tomball, and now our freezer is stocked with some delicious venison—hot sausage, backstraps, and ground meat perfect for hearty chili and stews. Cade’s already talking about his next trip, and we couldn’t be more proud of him for embracing the experience with enthusiasm and respect. Here’s to many more adventures!
