Our recent three-day hog hunt was a truly unforgettable father-son experience, one that we felt truly blessed to have. After winning an auction for the hunt, we eagerly looked forward to spending time outdoors together. The bunkhouse accommodations were simple but comfortable, with eight twin beds and easy access to bathroom and shower facilities just a short walk across camp. Each day, we were assigned different hunting spots, and every trip was a success, with the first two hunts at the "South Blind" yielding positive results, followed by two exciting walking hunts where everyone returned with at least one hog.
The food at camp was a highlight as well, with hearty meals provided throughout the day. From bacon and sausage to rotisserie chicken, tacos, and Cade's favorite shrimp etouffee, we were well-fed after a day of hunting. Cade especially enjoyed using the rifle to take down hogs and now holds the bragging rights for the heaviest hog shot between us (though I still got the most!). He’s most excited about cooking the quartered meat, so we’re looking forward to seeing what meals we prepare with our meat.
By the end of the trip we had a total of 9 hogs between the two us. Now our freezers are stocked with a variety of meats, including ribs, legs, tenderloins, sausage, and bratwurst. This trip gave us not just a freezer full of meat, but memories we’ll cherish forever. It was an amazing bonding experience, and we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to spend this time together in God’s beautiful creation. We can’t wait for our next adventure!
