Thurs, June 5- We headed out of town around 6am after grabbing some coffee. Our travel day was a success, with only a bit of traffic in Baton Rouge, LA. We arrived in Gulf Shores at The Beach Club right at 4pm. After unpacking, the rest of the crew arrived around 6pm and we had pulled pork sliders that Charles smoked and then walked on the beach. We are ready for a relaxing day tomorrow!
Fri, June 6- Today was spent sleeping in, exploring the Beach Club amenities, and going to the beach/pools. The boys enjoyed the fitness center with the sauna and steam room. The girls definitely got hooked on the beach and pools to start their tans. Around 6:45pm we headed down for professional beach pictures at sunset. We chose pink and blue colors and our photographer Jason was super kind. I hope they turn out well as it has been a while since we did family pictures. After pictures we drove into town for a nice dinner at the Original Oyster house. It was such a fun, but long day as we ate dinner around 10pm. We are looking forward to a full beach day tomorrow!
Sat, June 7- Beach day was in full effect today. We had quite the set up and everyone enjoyed their own activities on the beach. Caelin said the beach has been her favorite so far as she loved swimming in the waves. The pools were a great way to relax after the beach and then we had brisket, mac-n-cheese, and green beans for dinner. The evening held movies and card games.
Sun, June 8- Today we ventured out to walk around Fort Morgan. The fort was interesting and the site holds a lot of history. The kids enjoyed walking through the old buildings, and I was shocked to see stalactites/stalagmites everywhere due to the calcium in the rocks. We also squeezed in ice cream at Sweet Cone Alabama, Thrift Shopping, Souvenir shopping, and eating at the famous Lambert's Southern Cooking. Lambert's provided quite the entertainment with rolls flying everywhere (kids favorite part) and a huge selection of southern home cooking.
Mon, June 9- Today we crossed into Florida at Perdido and ate at the Flora-Bama Grill. The kids got a kick out of saying they crossed into another state and the food was pretty good. Since we were right at Orange Beach, we decided to find a public beach access and spend a few hours in the sand and sun. All was going well until Caelin and the boys got stung by baby jellyfish and came out of the water walking strange. Lol! The rest of the evening was spent hanging out at the condo and playing cards.
Tues, June 10- Today we started off exploring the OWA shops in Foley. The adults did a moonshine tasting at Murder Creek Distillery while the kids ate a nice lunch at a restaurant. Once we got back to the condo, we hung out while playing cards, working out, etc. Around dinner we headed to the front of the resort for food trucks and live music. Storms rolled in around 8pm, so we spent some time on our patio watching the rain come in.
Wed, June 11- Today was my favorite kind of day...beach and pool! Everyone was lazy and slept in before showing up down on the beach. The pool was crowded, but we were able to get chairs and even read some of our books. Later that night, we ordered pizza while packing and then played a game of Phase 10 to round out the night.
Thurs, June 12- Too many memories to count and we are all sad to be going home. We left at 7am and broke up the drive with a quick stop at LSU all together to see a family friend, Jaclyn. Her smile and hugs helped brighten our spirits for the rest of the ride home. We tried to keep all stops to a minimum as we wanted to get home quickly. Finally around 6pm we pulled into our driveway. Thank you God for providing this time with our family and allowing all the memories to be made!
