Fiesta Bowl in Arizona

This year Stacy and I made a deal.  If Baylor made a BCS Bowl Game then I would be able to go (even if it was out of state). Well, much to her chagrin it happened!  Baylor was selected to play in the Tostito's Fiesta Bowl in Arizona.  Of course, she is a woman of her word and I got to attend the game despite the cost of airfare, hotel costs, and of course the ticket to the game. Thank you Stacy.  Even though we did not win it was a ton of fun to go and cheer the Bears on.  We have come a long way and I am excited to see what happens next season.  I feel another trip coming up!

During the trip I got to:
  • stay in the same hotel as the UCF cheerleaders and band
  • take in the official Baylor Pep Rally
  • see some old friends at the Baylor "B" Association dinner (and hang out with President Star)
  • enjoy the pregame festivities
  • watch a game at the University of Phoenix football stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play
All in all it was one of the funnest trips I have ever been on.  I mean, what could be better than a trip revolving around your favorite sport team's biggest football game to date? Let me answer that for you in case you were seriously thinking about how to answer that...NOTHING!

Here is a quick summary of the game:

The sixth-ranked Bears, a 17-point favorite in the Fiesta Bowl at kickoff, never led against No. 15 Central Florida in a 52-42 loss Wednesday night.
The Bears rolled up 550 yards, but UCF had 556 and fewer mistakes.
The Knights (12-1) scored touchdowns on their first two possessions. Baylor (11-2) tied it at 28 with 10:18 left in the third quarter, but UCF outscored the Bears 24-14 from there in the highest-scoring Fiesta Bowl and second-highest BCS bowl ever.
The Bears were penalized 17 times for 135 yards to UCF's four for 40 yards.
Bryce Petty completed 30 of 46 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns. The Bears' Lache Seastruck rushed for 117 yards on 17 carries.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Baylor set the all-time NCAA record for most points in a 13-game season with 681 points.
• Bryce Petty's career-high and program-record 3 rushing TDs by a QB vs. UCF are the most by any QB in the 2013-14 bowl season and set a Fiesta Bowl record.
• Petty is the only QB to rush for 3 TDs in a bowl game since 1996 -- the only QB to rush for more than 3 TDs in a bowl game was Vince Young of Texas in the 2005 Rose Bowl vs. Michigan (4 rushing TDs).
• Petty accounted for 20 total points, tied for the second-highest total by a QB in a bowl game since data started being kept in 1996 (24 by Young in 2005 Rose Bowl and 20 by Young in 2006 National Championship).
• Petty's 14 rushing TDs this season are the most by a Baylor QB in program history.
• Petty's 10th game with 300+ yards passing broke Robert Griffin III's single-season program record of 9 in 2011.
• With his 7th game this season of 100 or more rushing yards, Lache Seastrunk ranks 2nd all-time on the Baylor single season list.
• WR Corey Coleman had a career-high 7 catches for a career-high 88 yards.

STAT OF THE GAME
Baylor (42) and UCF (52) combined to score 94 points, most in Tostitos Fiesta Bowl history and second-most in BCS history behind only the combined 103 points scored in the 2012 Sugar Bowl (West Virginia 70, Clemson 33).
