LAST DAY of 1st and 3rd Grade!

It was a great first year at Decker Prairie Elementary.  The kids adjusted great to a new school and were so excited to ride the bus to school and be with neighborhood friends at school.  Caelin loved Ms. Jessica Kirk and was a model student at school.  She progressed in reading to a level M and learned so much in math.  She was known to be a little shy at times with friends, but worked hard to come out of her shell.  We are so proud of her hard work and positive attitude.  Cade has Mrs. Melissa Moline as his homeroom teacher and boy was she a perfect fit for him.  She understood Cade's wit and encouraged his love of reading.  Cade calls her his "Schmom" for "School Mom".  She knew the right words at all times for Cade!  Cade also had Mrs. Helen Wilt and Mrs. Heniff for switch classes.  I liked that he had a 3 way split and was able to be more active during the day.  Cade says every lesson was fun with his teachers, EXCEPT anything with quizzes and tests.  Ha!  Our other favorite memories of Decker were all the contests for things like recycling/box tops, grade level field trips, family literacy nights, school carnival, birthday book club, and reading ceremonies. The kids had class parties the day before school got out which was great since the last day was only a half day of school.  To celebrate the end of the year, Gamee, Jacob, Mrs. April, and others joined us when they got off the bus on the last day with silly string and sparklers.  The kids also had fun at the end of the year swim party at Malachi's house.  What a great ending to a perfect year.  Thank you God for giving us a GREAT first year of staff and friends at Decker!

Memorial Day Weekend

We always enjoy time at the lake house in Grapeland, TX.  Being without the hustle and bustle reminded us to remember those who gave all for our freedom.  Each and every one of them is a true hero.  We were excited that Corey and his girlfriend Laura with her kids Dylan and Dakota could also join us.  Gamee and Grampee were great hosts as usual and even had the best water slide ready to go for us (upgraded with bumpers and sand bags to catch you at the bottom).  Bear did great with his eye problems and was able to run around and be free which made me heart happy.  I was so fearful that he would not have fun, and I think Grapeland is one of his favorite places to go.  We took turns using the golf cart and boat while some enjoyed walks and swimming.  Caelin loved having her friend Brooklyn next door and they were unable to be separated all weekend.  Cade enjoyed reading a bit and games/puzzles were a favorite as well.  Of course, every night ended with smores by the fire.  We hope to have more adventures in Grapeland soon.  We are hopeful that everyone was able to take time with family this weekend to remember those who gave all for our Country.
