Tutu's and Touchdowns

The Nutcracker Ballet

What a beautiful girls day it was!  We finally got to get all dolled up and go to Caelin and I's first ballet with Gamee.  We are thankful for Gamee telling us the story of the Nutcracker before we got there since there is no talking, ha!  The dancing skills were incredible and the music was well played throughout the entire performance.  Our eyes were all glued to the stage.  When asked what three words she would use to describe the performance, Caelin replied, "quiet, colorful and dancing."  We were also very proud of ourselves for navigating downtown, parking, and getting ourselves home.  For dinner we stopped at Caelin's choice, Cheddar's.  With the temperature dropping in the teens, we were all happy to be home and snuggled in our warm pajamas to watch the Baylor bowl game.

Armed Forces Bowl

As Baylor football fans we can remember the lean years when there was not as much winning as we would have liked.  That is probably why we try to celebrate those victories now when we can.  The 2022 football season did not go as planned, but we still earned a spot in a Bowl game: The Armed Forces Bowl.  The other team selected to play was the Air Force Academy and thankfully it was being played in Ft. Worth.  So after some discussion it was decided that Cade, Grampee and Dad would attend the game as a kind of guy’s trip.  Cade and dad headed up the day before the game to check out the stadium and attend a Letterman’s get together.  It was a true road trip with a stop in Waco for pics at McLane Stadium, Vitek’s For a Gut Pak, and Common Grounds with hopes to get the elusive Frozen S’more (they had to settle for a hot S’more). Once in Ft. Worth a visit was made to the Amon G. Carter stadium which turned out to be worth the early visit. Great picture spots were found, free posters to be grabbed, and even a couple of open gates that let us down to the field!  Later that evening was the Letterman’s Dinner were Cade got to meet former player Walter Abercrombie, Former OL coach Doug Fertsch, and even Athletic Director Mack Rhoades.  The next day we awoke to much colder weather and even some snow flurries!  We made our way to Reata Restaurant for lunch and enjoyed some great food.  Grampee joined us later that afternoon to get ready for the game.  The temps were quickly dropping so we bundled up and made our way to game. Regardless of the number of layers we were still freezing. At one point in the game it felt like -7 outside! In the end Cade and Grampee spent lots of time in the bathroom to keep warm and the football team seemed as cold as the weather.  Unfortunately Air Force beat Baylor 30-to-15, leaving the Bears with a 6-and-7 record for the season. However, we were a part of NCAA history as the game will be remembered by the players and fans for mostly one thing. It goes into the books as the coldest bowl game ever!
